The proposed new construction project is located at the alley facing portion of a residential lot in Sacramento. Following the bay window patterns present in the surrounding neighborhood, we developed a proposal with 2ft projections and setbacks that create a rhythmic tectonic of the building . The volumes and spectral design of the 2nd and 3rd level projections accentuate the residential program and minimize the visual impact of the garage elements.

The varying side setbacks at the 1st level modulates the side wall, that is noticeable from the alley, into volumes projecting in differrent planes. The volumes are further defined with different exterior finishes: stucco and wood siding.

The balcony at the 3rd level alley facing facade creates a rhythmic composition with the 2nd floor projections with equal proportions. The step-back on 3rd level is also used as an architectural strategy to reduce the perceived mass of the building.

Various facade materials are introduced to emphasize the projections and setbacks: white stucco, wood slatted vertical siding, and regularly sized modern shingles. New architectural vertical accents are introduces to highlight the volumes of the bay windows projections and balconies boundaries. The vertical elements are inspired by the surrounding Victorian houses along the more prominent street, which have a strong visual presence characterized by freestanding posts supporting porch roofs and balconies or vetical facade trims.

The overall color scheme is a subtle combination of white with natural wood nuances. In addition to this we introduce bold color accents for the vertical elements that are taken as an inspiration from various brightly colored houses in the surrounding neighborhood. 

The deisign establishes a composition of mindful articulation and emphasizes contextual compatability, massing variation and volumetric rhythm , creating recesses and projections, and using different materials and finishes defining the multiple planes.
