This is a project for a new construction of a 2-unit house in Sacramento. The challenge here was to develop a simple mirrored layout where each house has a distinguished exterior treatment that is contemporary, yet cost-sensitive and straight forward. This is how we came up with this simple rhythmic composition of white and dark grey stucco volumes distinguishing each of the two units on all four sides of the house. Designing with the cost in mind, we developed rules for a subtle interplay of volumes pushed in and out.
